I'd managed to reel myself back to just cocky hope from arrogant expectation before the Third Test started. Despite the first two days, I was still deluded enough to think we might be in with a chance on the basis of the peculiarly high fourth innings stats at the ground in the last ten years. It appears the only stats worth considering were those concerning England's all-time record next to the Swan River.
Notwithstanding David Gower and Bob Willis's match-winning efforts in 1978, it still seems you're best off asking a Scot rather than an Englishman if you want someone to put in a Stirling effort in Perth. I know that's awful, but I've not slept and, like England's rabbits all match, am enduring an advanced state of Mitchellmatosis...
Typical Poms in Oz. Our worst side for years and you still can't beat us!!!!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure Stirling was Scottish?
ReplyDeleteLast night was heartbreaking. Any idea what all the banter has been about? Amazing to see that the Aussies STILL can't take it, despite being happy to dish it out at any opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a combination of Anderson/KP/Prior chipping away all series - and I'm not criticising that after Steve Waugh's mental disintegration manifesto has been plundered by Oz for many a year - plus the Aussies being written off as hopeless by both their and our media. You could say win with grace, old chaps, but it must be hard not mouth off if only out of relief after the criticism they've received, especially Johnson. Unfortunately the whole playground descent seems to have stifled our game and given the Baggy Greens an extra something...
